and inshaAllah quotes/pieces from my favorite activists, poets, writers

P.S. blog title inspired by one of my favorite people<3

“What if every single stumble, every challenge, every experience in our life was only intended for one purpose: to bring us back to our origin? What if every win, every loss, every beauty, every fall, every cruelty, and every smile was only intended to unveil another barrier between us and God? Between us and where we began, and where we are desperately seeking to return?
What if everything was only about seeing Him?”

www.gofundme.com/kamranandmashal <—-donate generously! alhamdulillah we are at $2300. The 114: Any last words to help us understand your mission better? Sis Mashal: What we are doing is not something new. In fact we are trying to revive something that has been lost. We are trying to revive the level of importance that our Ummah places on Islamic scholarship. There was a time when our most brilliant men and women were also some of the most pious. We hope to make clear that success in the eyes of Allah(swt) does not come at the cost of success in this world. We expect our doctors to go to school for almost a decade. We expect our scientists and engineers to do the same. We expect any expert to have multiple academic degrees. So why do we not expect the same of our Muslim leaders? Why do we not hold our scholars and Imams to the same standard. It is clear to us that the communities that find long term success are the ones who realize the importance of well educated and legitimate spiritual leadership. Our mission is to help fill that missing link.

The 114 Daily Interview

"Our youth need examples that they can relate to. The Prophet(saws) was such an effective messenger because he was able to relate to the challenges of his people. His success in Madinah revolved around his success with the youth of Madinah. In accordance with his sunnah, our approach with the youth needs to be one that respects their potential for good and presents a message that is refreshing. The youth don’t just need youth groups, they need foundations in strong communities. If we can fix the problems with our communities, we can give them an environment where they feel comfortable. Once you have gotten their attention, they must be provided with examples of adults who they both love and respect. Community leaders need to model for the youth how Allah(SWT) is a part of every element of their lives and how the message of Muhammad(saws) is the best path. These community leaders must be examples of balance and wisdom. Finally, those youth need programs and opportunities through our masajid to hone their skills and perfect their various talents. The only way such a situation can be developed is if our communities have strong and wise leadership and our masajid become beacons of political, academic, social and economic involvement.

Assalamu alaikum. Insha’Allah this August, my wife and I will be going to Egypt to study Islam. Muslim communities around the U.S. are without enough spiritual leadership. In the past, the trend has been to import Imams from overseas and rely on scholarship that was developed for a different context. By studying at Al Diwan and Al Azhar and bringing the knowledge back with us we wish to commit our lives to being a part of the solution and empowering the American Muslim Community. We will be taking up the path paved by scholars before us, such as Suhaib Webb, Muslima Purmul and Jamal Diwan. we need your contribution! It doesn’t matter if you give $1, $5 , $10, $10o or $500. Every dollar goes a long way and what truly matters to us is that you choose to be a part of this mission.

"These folks are off to do some pretty cool things; embarking on a journey to learn Islam, in order to bring that knowledge back to us- in reality, we’re all helping each other here. If you know Kamran or Mashal, you know that they both already do so much for the community, let’s help them in doing this. Anything and everything helps. Feel free to ask them any questions you may have about anything!” -Sonum Saeed

The beloved Prophet(saw) said, “Allah is helping the servant as long as the servant is helping his brother.”

"InshaAllah, two very special people in our community will be on their way to Egypt to pursue their goal in Islamic studies. They have contributed so much to our community and now they have taken a bigger step.
Mashal Ghulam Ayobi and Kamran Mouhaid Muhammad Islam will be studying intensively at Al-Diwan and Al-Azhar, and in the future inshaAllah they will bring back that knowledge.
